’twas the night before christmas | holiday mini sessions

Periodically throughout the year I offer mini sessions.  Mini sessions are a way for Expressions to be able to contribute to various charities and causes.  They also provide clients a unique opportunity to be photographed on a limited edition scene and get their hands on specially offered products. Mini sessions are ideal for busy families that want updated photos of their children but don’t have the time for a full session. They’re also great for getting the perfect Christmas card photo.

This year’s theme was ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Neutral modern decorations, a beautifully lit Christmas tree and a cozy bed made the perfect snugly spot for children to come and get excited about Christmas Eve! I encouraged my clients to wear their best Christmas jammies to complete the theme and could not be happier with how they turned out.

In an effort to give back, a specific charity/cause is selected to receive proceeds from the mini sessions. This year, for our winter minis, I choose a cause near and dear to my family, Easterseals of South Carolina. My cousin’s husband, TJ, was born with a cleft lip and palate and carries a gene for the condition. Over 20 years ago he received treatment through Easterseals of Western and Central Pennsylvania for therapies and support to help his development. Now, his sweet little boy and my newest cousin, baby Layton is receiving treatment through the same organization for his cleft lip and palate (See Layton’s story here).

Easterseals have been helping people with disabilities and special needs live better lives for over 100 years. They offer a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life’s challenges and achieve their personal goals. They have and continue to do so much for Megan + Tj’s growing family and I humbled to be able to donate to this amazing organization so they can continue to do good for families across the country.

My mini sessions this winter were filled mostly by long time Expressions clients. Since you all have met most of them through their individual sessions, I thought it would be fun to include details from each adorable sibling duo’s parents on their bond and favorite holiday memories.

Riley (6) + Olivia (1) – These two are #siblinggoals.  We thought it would be hard since there is such a big age difference, but they love each other so much.  Riley always calls Olivia “Baby Girl” and asks if she missed him (while he was at school all day).  She calls him “Ry Ry” and has to know where he is at all times.  It’s funny to watch them fight now too, now that she’s old enough to tell him no – which is usually when he is in her face trying to kiss her or rub her cheeks.  They love reading books together, snuggling in bed, and having “sleepovers” in the nursery. We’re savoring these times because we know they won’t last; and we’re so happy that Jamie was able to capture their relationship perfectly in these pictures! – Kelly + Richie

Carter (3) + Lucas (17 months)One of our favorite memories of the holidays is making homemade cookies.  Sometimes it feels like just yesterday – the excitement I had when I would bake cookies for Santa with my Mom.  I love being able to share this experience with our boys as Christmas approaches!!  We hope our boys continue to share the same feelings and magic of Christmas as the years continue! – Holly + Steve

Emmalyn (3) + Hadlie (8 months) – A favorite memory of this season in life would be watching the girls love on each other. Emmalyn is so patient and kind to Hadlie and Hadlie just adores Emmalyn. Emmalyn is mommy’s little helper especially during car rides. If Hadlie gets a little fussy in the car Emmalyn always sings to her and it will bring a smile to Hadlie’s face every time. Hadlie is the sweetest, most chill baby. She always rolls with the flow in whatever we throw her way. I take mental pictures almost daily because I don’t ever want to forget the girls the way they are right now. – Shannon + Tyler
