a vintage inspired one year-old milestone session

My sweet niece, Olivia, is one! It feels like yesterday I was shooting my sister Kelly’s maternity photos, and now her baby girl has been with us for a full year. Being able to look back at newborn pictures and see the transformation of my littlest clients through the years is so special. It’s hard to believe the amazing things this girl is doing already!

We shot Olivia’s one-year-old photos at Kelly + Richie’s home in Littlestown. We began in her beautiful nursery where I also captured some shots during Kelly’s maternity session and Olivia’s newborn session. It’s so awesome to have photos of Olivia at each phase of her life so far in the same room. You can really see how much she has changed. One thing that hasn’t changed though, is her beautiful curly black hair. She’s had these luscious locks since the day she was born, unlike her brother Riley who was born with black hair and now is totally blonde!

While in her nursery, Olivia showed off how she can stand on her own. I can tell she’s just days away from walking even though she was being silly and holding on to her mom’s finger in some shots when she can stand on her own for quite some time! One of her favorite activities right now is reading. She just loves every book you read her!

After we finished playing in Olivia’s nursery, we headed outside. Kelly dressed her in the most adorable chambray, tulle and crochet dress for this part of our session. It was so precious! Another activity Olivia loves is peek-a-boo. Her dad, Richie, helped out by hiding behind the bushes playing the game with her. She had the biggest smile on her face and couldn’t stop laughing. The photos in this series are some of my favorite shots from the whole day!

After a belly busting round of peek-a-boo, it was time to smash the cake. I’ve found that there are two types of cake smashers, ones that go all in and ones that are more cautious. Olivia was more interested in “sharing” her cake than eating it herself, sticking her little finger in the icing and twirling it around instead of smashing it everywhere. She probably didn’t want to get her cute little tutu dirty!

Kelly + Richie, Olivia is growing up to be the sweetest niece I could ask for. I can’t wait to see all the things she accomplishes next beboppin’ her way through life with those curls!
