an ice cream and football themed six year milestone session

As busy parents, we can sometimes forget to take time to enjoy the little moments with our kids. Next thing you know, you look up and another year has passed. Your kids are taller, smarter and changing everyday. Milestone sessions are the perfect way to capture your littlest loves, preserving who they are at this phase in their life including their personalities and interests.

I have been shooting Riley’s milestone sessions every year of his life. Now he’s six! It’s crazy how time flies! Over the years, I’ve watched him grow and turn into this amazing, sweet, funny (sometimes crazy) , but ultimately loving little boy.

Milestone sessions allow us to truly freeze and remember who these little people were at this time by focusing on the birthday boy or girl’s favorite places and activities. For Riley that means ice cream, reading and flag football. We started the day at Mr. G’s in Gettysburg, PA. Riley enjoyed his favorite cookie dough ice cream outside on the patio where we played a few rounds of hook and ring toss. He is actually quite good!

From Kelly (Riley’s Mom): He all of a sudden went from being a shy, quiet “little” boy to a kid who wants to be in every sport, rides a four-wheeler, shoots a BB gun and asks to invite different friends to come with us everywhere we go. He has the humor of a six year old boy but also that of an adult. He is sarcastic and wise beyond his years (when he wants to be). He is fiercely independent and definitely has a mind of his own. He likes to rough house, but also loves snuggling with his sister and rubbing her cheeks while singing to her.

From Richie (Riley’s Dad): Riley questions and learns about everything around him. He not only wants to learn more, but wants to share it with everyone. He has the best/craziest imagination and I love watching him play. 

After crunching down on the last bite of cone, we walked across the street to a landscaped “reading” nook. Riley sat on the bench and proudly read his two favorite books to me, making note of his favorite flip book section in one of them. Next to reading, being outside is one of his favorite things. I loved being able to capture both for him during this portion of our session.

Riley’s last request for his milestone session was a trip to his flag football field. He just began playing for the Littletown Thunderbolts this year and is loving every minute of it. He put on his uniform and grabbed a football. He had the best time running around the field and showing off everything he has learned – even tackling me!

The best part about milestone sessions is seeing each little client’s personality shine during their favorite activities. Normally, Riley does not enjoy having his picture taken. However, since he got to help plan the session doing some of his favorite things, his funny personality took center stage. With his mom Kelly there to support him, I was able to capture exactly who he is at this phase of his life.

Riley, thank you for sharing your favorite things with me. I had so much fun spending the day eating ice cream and running around the football field with you. I can’t wait to see how your interests develop over the next year!
