family fun-filled lifestyle maternity + two-year milestone session

I love lifestyle sessions, especially those that take place in the client’s home. Everyone, especially the men, seem more comfortable and it truly shows throughout the session. I met Katie + Troy in high school and couldn’t have been more honored that they choose me to capture this special moment in their lives.

Already parents to adorable (almost) 2-year-old Caroline, Katie is currently pregnant with her and Troy’s second daughter due in the next few months. When I first arrived, before I could even take off my coat, Caroline excitingly greeted me at the door. She began talking a mile a minute telling me all about her favorite toy, Daniel the Tiger. I had never met sweet Caroline before today. Knowing that she was already so comfortable with me was a great start to the session.

In addition to shooting Katie’s maternity photos, they asked me to capture the enchanting personality of Caroline for her birthday. We wanted to focus on capturing who she is at this phase in her life. The day began with Caroline and I playing peek-a-boo in her room, which she was so happy to show off. Since she is so energetic, peek-a-boo got old pretty quick so I asked her to show me her bed. She ran to her crib, let me lift her in it and began jumping immediately as any 2 year old would do! At the same moment the sunshine poured in through her bedroom window creating a perfect setting.

I finished my time with Caroline by having her show me some of her favorite toys, including a cute little Step-Two kitchen (featured on the Step- Two Instagram here). She put on her apron and began making us pancakes and bacon all while still telling me about Daniel the Tiger.

After our “breakfast”, Katie and Troy joined us to begin the maternity portion of our session. Rambunctious little Caroline just wanted to jump on Mom’s baby belly to start but soon got very cuddly. With all the attention she was giving Katie’s bump, it’s obvious she’s going to be a great big sister!  

The beautiful light from Caroline’s room flooded the hallway turning this usually mundane space into an ideal setting for some portraits of Katie. After a few shots, Troy joined in. Like most men, he was a bit camera shy at first. But, as soon as he looked at Katie, it was like I disappeared. Their love, happiness, and laughter was infectious throughout the whole session and made capturing their relationship a breeze.

It wasn’t long before Caroline ran in and joined us again for a few more shots. I captured them reading as a family, one of their favorite activities to do together. We grabbed the sonogram picture of their beautiful baby girl before our time together was over and got their first photo as a family of four!

 

 

Katie + Troy, it was an honor to work with a loving family like yours. All the laughter and sweet smiles made my day. I can’t wait to meet your new addition!
