an at-home fairfield lifestyle one year milestone + alternative cake smash session
What’s better than getting to celebrate the one year birthday of a sweet little girl? Getting to celebrate this milestone with THREE sweet little girls! I was so happy to join my dear friends Mandi + Jon at their home for an alternative cake smash session with their one-year-old triplets – Katelyn Ann, Abigail Beth and Natalie Claire.
Delightful Detail: When the girls were born, Mandi + Jon decided they would create a twist when naming on the hospital tradition for multiples “baby A, B and C”. They used this method to choose the middle names of these little loves. The first born would have an A middle name, the second, a B, and the third, a C middle name. Now everyone will always remember their birth order. What a clever idea!
We started the session at the pond behind Mandi + Jon’s home. It served as the perfect backdrop to capture these very active one-year-olds. Kate, Abby + Nattie are already walking! This made for a very athletic session for us adults! Just as we would get all three together, one would hop up and start to wander. Every time that happened you could hear Jake’s cute little voice, echoing “Sissy on the loose! Sissy on the loose!” I had to force myself not to crack up every time and get back to chasing triplets!
After capturing the girls, it was time for the rest of the family to join in. As we were walking down the lawn, Jake started to slow down. We had everyone all together and poor Jakey was still halfway around the pond. I handed one of the girls to Mandi, ran to him, bent down and said “It’s piggyback time.” He rode on my back as we ran to our shade tree just in time.
I even got to pull Mandi + Jon away for a few couples shots before ending with our alternative cake smash session. They haven’t had any professional photos of the two of them since their wedding in 2011! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to take a few moments with just them. I know that these, plus the photos of Jake, Kate, Abby + Natie will look amazing hanging in their dining room as an updated canvas wall composite.
Lastly, we moved inside for a sprinkle celebration! Kate, Abby + Nattie were wearing the most adorable outfits made by family friend and fellow Tuesdays Together – Gettysburg, PA member, Sam of Rock Star Designs. Instead of giving them mini cakes or cupcakes, we gave each a little dish of whipped cream and topped with rainbow sprinkles. They had such a blast picking it up and smashing their little noses in it!
Mandi + Jon, I had an awesome playing with Jake, Kate, Abby + Nattie. Being able to capture milestones like this for you guys is so rewarding – especially looking back and seeing how big everyone has gotten within one year!!
P.S. Look how cute the girls are at the their one year NICU visit. You can check out the triplets’ newborn session HERE.
