board & brush | small business spotlight

Board & Brush is one of my favorite local creative studios and I am excited to feature them in this year’s holiday guide. Owner’s Ericka + Zack are two of the sweetest people I have ever met. As fellow members of the TuesdaysTogether – Gettysburg chapter, they have created a environment for people of all ages that encourages fun, creativity and togetherness.

I was thrilled when these two asked me to photograph them for the guide!  As soon as I walked in the doors I was greeted with open arms and warm embraces, Ericka had everything put together for their product highlights and watching Ericka + Zack interact when we did some lifestyle headshots was simply the best.  Just take a look at how they look at each other! << That wasn’t posed folks!  I could go on and on about these two, but in order for you to get to know a little more about the faces behind the business, I’ve asked Ericka + Zack five specific questions about what they do and why. Hearing their answers makes me love our community even more and that they are a part of it.

When did you start your business and what inspired you to do so?

We started our business in July 2017. We were inspired by a recent anniversary celebration trip to the Magnolia Silos in Waco, TX. We’re big fans of Chip + Joanna and loved the thought of bringing two of our passions together. Zachary is a wonderful carpenter and craftsman and I love all things farmhouse and DIY.

Who do you help and how with your business?

We help people who love DIY and creativity but don’t know where to start. We offer them a hands on experience in creating their own unique one of a kind decor piece that they are elated to display in their homes.

Is there a specific charity/cause or annual community event that you contribute to?

We contribute frequently to a local non-profit for equine therapy called Shining Stars Therapeutic Ministries. They have a wonderful program in Gettysburg focused on providing healing hope and happiness to children, adults and families with special needs in order to improve physical, mental, emotional and social areas of their lives.

What do you love most about the drive behind your business?

The thing we love most is working together as husband and wife. Zachary is the ying to my yang. We balance each other out very well and always push each other for greatness.

What are three fun facts about yourself or your team?

Our team doesn’t consider their jobs a job because they’re usually here when they’re not scheduled to make signs. Zachary and I had an almost identical business model drawn up before deciding on Board & Brush! We have two dogs that are considered “snow dogs”. One is a Siberian Husky and the other a Norwegian Elkhound. Neither like to be outside more than 20 minutes in the snow.
