My family is the most important thing to me and I cherish every minute I get to spend with them. This past July my mom’s side of the family spent a week together at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. My mom was a total rockstar and planned an amazing trip for the entire family.
She thought through every detail of our time together including activity boxes for the kids to open everyday, a girls wine day, a boys golf day and a couples night. It was such an amazing trip that we will all remember for years to come.
From my mom Lori – One of my favorite memories from the trip is the daily activity. I loved seeing the kids doing activities and having fun. I also loved seeing Jamie’s and Kelly’s face when they saw the activity 🙂
From my sister Kelly – One of my favorite parts of the trip was seeing all the cousins play together and listening to the way they have conversations. I loved watching them catch fish and try to be brave enough to touch it. They were unapologetically just kids running around barefoot, squealing in the rain and getting dirty and messy. It was great to not have to worry about schedules or bedtimes or school and daycare the next day.
While we were there I had planned on taking photos of my sister Kelly’s family. Instead of including family photos during Olivia’s one year milestone session, we knew that the lake would make the perfect backdrop to get the whole family together in just a short month.
About a year ago, I told them I wanted to take some pictures of them in honor of their wedding. They enjoy spending as much time as they can on their boat during the summer. I knew this would be a great time to capture them together doing what they love.
We hadn’t planned on taking any photos of them this trip, but once we had a calm day Mom came to me and said let’s do it! I was excited but honestly worried. “James” is notorious for having weird clothing that my sisters and I revoke as soon as we see them, like the not so popular mustard 80’s inspired tank 🙂 Love you Jimmy! However, after looking through their suitcases, I was able to put together outfits that coordinated and were totally them.
While we were staying at the lake, we made friends with the family that lived next door. We spent a lot of time in the water, enjoying the beautiful weather with them. They were kind enough to let me to use their dock to shoot from. It created the perfect angle for capturing each family.
After capturing Kelly’s family and my mom + Jimmy, I was able to grab a few beautiful shots of my step sister Brandy, her husband Mike and daughter Emma. They weren’t getting off that easy with a photographer along on the trip!
To my fam – thank you for allowing me to capture these fun images of your families for you while on vacation. We had an amazing trip together. I can’t wait for next year’s adventure and of course another photo book of our trip complete with rhyming words by Mom.
I’ll have to work on training someone to take photos of the Fisher family while on vacation, but as I always say – the best camera you have is the one you have with you 🙂
