firefighter themed nursery newborn session

It’s been quite the year for Karson + Daniel. Not only did they get married but they welcomed their first little babe, Stephen Craig Vencent. I joined the new family of three at their home when Stephen was just five days old. He was absolutely perfect and a joy to be around. I always joke that newborn sessions are the hardest part of my job because they are so little, all I want to do is snuggle them. Stephen didn’t make it easy to put him down because he was so sweet, but after a good snuggle, I picked up my camera and captured this perfect new addition to the family.

Named after Daniel’s dad who passed away, baby Stephen is the spitting image of Daniel. In the middle of the session, Daniel showed me one of his baby pictures and the resemblance was uncanny. In all my years of photographing newborns, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby and a parent look so much alike!

From Karson: This has been such an exciting and crazy year for Daniel and I. Not only did we get married, but we welcomed our first baby boy into the world. We could not be happier with how things have turned out over the last year, and these first couple weeks with our little guy have been pure bliss. Stephen has a name that means so much to a lot of people. Stephen was Daniel’s dad’s name, Craig is Daniel’s and his dad’s middle name, and Vencent is my dad’s, brother’s and grandfather’s middle name. It is so exciting that he is able to carry down so much tradition and meaning in just his name alone. We are so in love already and feel blessed to be able to experience this life together and with our newest addition.

Not only does Stephen’s name carry a lot of meaning, so does his nursery. Daniel’s dad was a firefighter before he passed so they decided to decorate his room with a firefighting theme. They even had a helmet from the station where Daniel’s dad worked. In addition to honoring Daniel’s dad with the theme, Karson’s dad hand built Stephen’s crib while Daniel built his bookshelf. It will be the perfect room for him to grow up in with a daily reminder of how much his family loves him.

Capturing the little details of a newborn is my favorite part of every session. Their little fingers, toes, lips and eyelashes are just too sweet to pass up. With Stephen, we were able to capture his tiny features and incorporate Daniel’s dad by draping grandpa Stephen’s cross on top of his little hands. It’s an image I know Daniel will cherish for years.

With Stephen joining the family just in time for Christmas, we incorporated a little bit of the holiday spirit at the end of our session. Wearing a Santa hat in just his size, I laid him in front of the Christmas tree for the most festive newborn session to date. He was definitely the tiniest and cutest Santa I’ve ever seen and I know these images made for the perfect Christmas gifts.

Karson + Daniel, thank you for allowing me to capture such important chapters in your life from your engagement to your wedding to your son. It’s obvious how head over heels in love with him you both are already and I know you will be amazing parents. This past year was quite amazing for you but I know 2019 has even more unbeatable moments in store.
