Shauna is a long time client of Expressions. I have been photographing her girls since her oldest was about four. Her family followed me through my time at two studios and as I opened Expressions. It’s amazing to see them grow over the years and get to capture each of their personalities.
For this year’s family session, we waited until the sunflowers at Sewell’s Farm were in perfect bloom. They made such a gorgeous backdrop to capture this beautiful family. The day before Shauna’s session, I captured new head-shots and brand images for her sister Sara who just joined the team at Tamara & Company. This reminded Shauna that she needed new head-shots of her own. While her girls were finishing getting ready, I was able to capture new head-shots that will be perfect for her corporate identity.
From Shauna: Photos, to me, mean so much more than a picture hanging on your wall. They are memories. My mom has always said “You take too many pictures.” Is there such a thing? You can look around your house at each picture and there is a story. My favorite part of our session was seeing all three of my daughters smiling and having fun on the land my dad worked so hard for. It has provided for our family and we have created so many memories there. And, being able to capture the sunset at one of my favorite places to watch it was amazing. I am glad you were there to be able to watch it and be the one capturing these wonderful memories for our family.
We started the day doing individual shots of each girl. For this portion of the session, Morgan, Emma + Sydney each picked out their own outfits. I loved this idea because it allowed each girl’s personality and personal style to shine through.
Sydney, seven, love love LOVES to have her picture taken. She is so full of life with the most infectious personality. She twirled around in her little white dress and brown boots while I snapped away. She soaked up every minute she could in front of the camera not wanting her turn to be over. It’s obvious she has a spirit all her own!
Next up was Emma, 13. Emma is a lot like Sydney. She loves to joke around with me, but unlike her , Emma would rather not be in front of the camera. With a huge heart and happy go lucky personality her beautiful smile took center stage.
Last was Morgan, 14. She wanted her pictures in front of the sunflower field. They’re so gorgeous right now; I completely understand why she chose that as her backdrop. Morgan has always been a bit shy. However, seeing her in front of the camera this year knowing exactly how she wanted to pose shows the secure, beautiful young lady she is blossoming into.
After I captured the girls individually, they changed into coordinating outfits for the family portion of our evening. While they were changing, I was able to grab some shots of Shauna + Gene. Most parents are focused on preserving the memory of this phase in their kids life that they forget to take a moment to preserve this phase of their relationship as well. Being able to capture even a few shots of them together is such a welcomed surprise for my clients.
I finished the session by capturing the whole family together, all three girls together and the girls with Shauna. By special request from the girls, we even snapped a few shots of Morgan + Emma walking away with the sunflowers behind them. Since they are so close in age, they have always shared a special bond. I know they will cherish these photos for years to come.
Shauna + Gene, thank you for allowing me to capture your beautiful family. I love watching Morgan, Emma + Sydney grow and develop their own distinct personalities. The sunflowers and sunset were gorgeous and I can’t wait to capture them both at the farm again soon.
