sewell’s christmas tree farm family session

One of the reasons I love photography as much as I do is that everyday I get to do something different. Regardless of the type of session, no two newborns, engagements, weddings, families or businesses are the same. Each is beautifully unique and I love being able to capture the essence of my clients at every session.

Sara is one third of the team at Tamara & Company and Shauna’s sister. After working with her during Tamara’s branding session and hearing all about Shauna + Gene’s family session, Sara was excited to book her own family session for her, Justin and their almost two year old Owen.

This session was at Sara’s family’s farm, Sewell’s Farm, the same location we shot her sister Shauna’s family. Sewell’s Farm is one of my favorite locations for family sessions. From sunflowers in the late summer to pumpkins in the fall and Christmas trees in the winter, there is always an area to shoot. It’s like a photographer’s dream! Not to mention, Mr. and Mrs. Sewell couldn’t be nicer.

I spent the evening with Sara, Justin + Owen rediscovering the farm and playing in the rows of baby Christmas trees. I always encourage clients to schedule their sessions close to sunset. The lighting in the hour leading up to it is just dreamy and makes for the best photos. With golden rays shining down on the pines behind them, Sara + Justin’s session was radiating that perfect cozy feeling.

As of lately I’ve been making it a point to incorporate special photos of Mom + Dad alone. As parents, we’re often times so focused on capturing our children growing up that we forget to capture who we are as a couple. Being able to give my clients photos of just the two of them is so special. With Owen playing in fields nearby, I was able to capture some beautiful shots of Sara + Justin alone together.

Sara + Justin, thank you for inviting me to the farm to capture your beautiful family. It was a perfect fall evening and the setting could not have been better. I loved being able to capture your family in a spot that means so much to all of you.
